William Grant, Sr. Obituary

BEAVER DAM-William M. Grant, Sr. died Friday March 22, 2024 at his home.  Bill loved his family more than anything.  He was a devoted husband of 47 years and an extremely loving father to his children, whom he adored.

Bill started as a kiln operator at “The Brickyard” in Nashville, Tennessee.  Although the job was hot and a lot of hard work, he enjoyed his time there.  While working at The Brickyard he pursued a career in law enforcement earning a place on a civil defense team in Nashville.  Realizing he didn’t want to raise a family in the “big city”, he moved his family to Lewisport, Kentucky and continued his career in law enforcement with the Lewisport Police Department.  Eventually he hired on with Southwire and retired as a mill operator in the rod and cable mill.

Bill had a personality that everyone fell in love with.  His sense of humor brought light and laughter to any room he was in.  Everyone loved to be in his presence.  Bill was a dog lover and dogs were as drawn to him as he was to them.

Bill was an avid UK basketball fan, looking forward to the start of every season.  He also enjoyed watching comedies(National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation being his favorite) and old westerns, Gunsmoke being one of his favorites.  He always enjoyed his meals at Moonlite BBQ with his family.  He was a collector of pocket knives and longtime fan of Elvis Presley and always quizzing someone with his Elvis trivia and sharing his many Elvis facts.  Although he never made it to an Elvis concert, this past year he, along with his family, saw his favorite Elvis impersonator in concert and visited Graceland.  Bill was a member of Hartford Church of Christ.

Bill found his own little piece of paradise in the country where he and his wife made their home.  He loved the peace and quiet of sitting on his back deck enjoying the hummingbirds and deer that frequently visited.  Bill was a simple man and lived a simple life and that’s exactly how he wanted it.  All he wanted in life was a happy and healthy family.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Rhonda Miller Grant; 1 son, William “BJ” Grant of Shelbyville, IN; 1 daughter, Crystyna Grant and extended son, Bobby Weddle of Clearwater, FL; 1 brother, James Grant(Barbara) of Cummins, GA; 1 grandchild, Tavon Thompson; several nieces and nephews.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Gladys E. Gilley Grant; a sister, Ann Baker and a brother-in-law, Junior Baker.
