Viola Everett

May 31, 1923 — August 16, 2018

BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Viola Everett, 95, formerly of Centertown, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, after a short visit at Beaver Dam Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was a former resident of Dogwood Estates in Beaver Dam.

Everett was born May 31, 1923, to the late Jesse Byrd and Neilia Byrd Decker. She worked at General Electric Co. for 23 years in the mounting department. After retiring from GE, she earned her general education diploma and became a nurse aide. She was a member of Centertown Holiness Church and attended Lone Star General Baptist Church in Centertown for many years. She was known by many as “Granny O” and never met a stranger. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years, and each and every one of them loved and adored her. She was a seamstress who made clothes for all ages, as well as for the many dolls she collected. She was also known for her cooking skills, especially her “Granny Fried Chicken” and homemade, fried apple pies. She had a passion for feeding people, whether they were hungry or not. She was especially fond of Little Debbie cakes and coffee. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, canning and planting flowers. Her senses of style and fashion, which matched her personality, were creative and very unique.

She is preceded in death by two husbands, William Everett and George Lewis; sisters Maymie Decker, Lois Byrd, Rosie Byrd and Melvie Byrd; brothers H.L. “Alney” Byrd and Phillip Kefford Byrd; son-in-law, Leonard H. Schroader; her dogs Bootsie, Max and Dolly; and her cat, Fluffy. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Schroader, of Hartford; her son, Bill (Liz) Lewis, of Hartford; step-daughter Jannifer (Ronnie) Matheny, of Martwick; stepson Ezra Lee (Loretta) Everett, of Martwick; six grandchildren, Janet Schroader, Kevin Schroader, Tonya Johnson, Sonya Southard and Allen Lewis, all of Hartford, and Tina Dixon, of North Pole, Alaska; four step-grandchildren:  Will Everett, Lisa Everett, Christine Matheny, and Ron Matheny, all of Martwick; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Geary, of Louisville; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Edna Curtis and Carolyn Matthews. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with Bro. Keith Shephard officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. until service time Sunday. Burial will follow the services at Centertown Cemetery.
