Mattie B. McCormick, 78, of Beaver Dam passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born on October 30, 1947, Mattie lived a life defined by strength, compassion, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and community.
Mattie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles McCormick, who passed away on January 31, 2018. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, hard work, and devotion to those they loved.
She was a faithful member of McHenry Baptist Church and dedicated many years of her life serving others as a registered nurse. Nursing was more than a profession to Mattie — it was part of who she was. She cared deeply for people and found purpose in helping others through some of life’s hardest moments.
Mattie came from humble beginnings and worked hard to build a life she could be proud of. She carried herself with grace and determination through every season of life. Even during her long battle with Parkinson’s disease, she rarely complained, despite having every reason to. Her strength and perseverance left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She enjoyed the simple joys in life — a fresh set of nails, a hot cup of coffee, a good meal shared with family, traveling, quilting, and making memories with the people she loved most. She was witty and stubborn in the best ways, adventurous, generous, deeply loving, and never afraid to speak her mind.
Mattie leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, faith, and selflessness that will continue through the generations that follow her. Though her family grieves deeply, they find comfort in knowing she is finally at peace and reunited with those who went before her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Reathel Sorrells and Jerry Sorrells.
She leaves behind her children, Donna (Glen) Calhoun, Scott (Tammy) Daugherty, David (Elizabeth) Daugherty, Eric (Robin) Clothier; grandchildren, Aaron (Melissa) Creek, Shalen (Rodney) Walker, Brandy Calhoun, Nathan Daugherty, Nichole Daugherty, Rachel (Jabari) Whyee, Lauren Daugherty, Mackenzie (Justin) Davis, Trystan (Hadleigh) Clothier; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, T.C. Sorrells, Mary (J.C.) Tinnell, Molly Johnson, Bobby (Alta) Sorrells and Shirley (Joe) Swift; her bonus daughter, Chinwe Daugherty, and her step-sons, Ronnie Clothier, John Clothier, Michael Clothier, Tim Clothier, Richard Clothier.
Services will be held Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Eric Clothier presiding.
