OWENSBORO – Gladys Addington Burgess, 90, of Owensboro passed peacefully at the Heartford House in Owensboro. She was born in Equality, Kentucky on September 28th, 1935 to the late Everett and Eva Marie Maddox Addington. She was raised by her grandparents, Henry and Willie Rowe Addington.
Gladys was a member of Smallhous Baptist Church. She enjoyed genealogy research, quilting, and taking trips to the mountains. She had a green thumb and loved growing flowers. Her greatest pleasure was taking care of her family.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Gracie Mae and Myrl Maddox; brother-in-law, Curtis; half-brother, Charles Everett; half-sister, Gertrude Stewart; grandson, Timothy Brian Ferguson; and sons-in-law, J.P. Barnett and Keith Ferguson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 69 years, Harold Burgess; children, Wiladean (Billy) Simpson, Carol Barnett, Lesia Ferguson and Jennifer (Joey) Osborne; grandchildren, Alisha (John) Bishop, Tracy (Waylon) Wright, Travis (Jennifer) Barnett, Curtis (Maranda) Barnett, Jon (Heather) Ferguson, Kyle (Natalee) Hurt, Hannah (Jake) West and Leah Evelyn Daniel; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Mary Sorrels, Sharon Sappenfield and Golda Mae Smith; and special sister-in-law, Stella Burgess Harper.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 13th, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Lonestar Church Cemetery in Centertown, Kentucky with Bro. Lealin Geary presiding. The family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to The Heartford House. Online messages of condolence may be sent to bevilbrosfuneralhomes.com.
