Amelia Maye (Shown) Barnes

December 23, 1924 — April 23, 2019

Amelia Maye Shown Barnes of 2747 State Route 69 South, Beaver Dam, KY went to be with the Lord from the Ohio County Hospital Tuesday April 23, 2019.

Maye was born to Beaula Lea Shown and Hollon Thomas Shown December 23, 1924 in her parents home next door where her grandson, Michael now lives with his two sons, Maye was 94 years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Pheobe Parker and Hannah Belle Daniel.

She is survived by her two children, Jerry Elmer (Vicky) Barnes of Titusville, FL and Shirley Kaye (Larry) Ferguson of Beaver Dam, KY.

Two grandchildren, Debra Ann (Brian) McBride and Michael McKenney.  Two step-grandchildren, Tracy Ann (Tony) Evitts and Will Ferguson.  She had a foster grandson, Paul (Marilyn) Frady.

Four great grandchildren, Nicholas & Russell McKenney, Finn & Maeve McBride.  Three great step-grandchildren, Sarah Ferguson, Matthew & Laura Evitts.  One foster great grandchild, Autum Frady.

Maye was “Mema” to everyone who ever came to her home. She loved everyone.

Maye was an active member of the Goshen Methodist Church all of her life.  She held many positions including being the piano player until her health stopped her.

She was a legal secretary for “Martin & Martin” law offices then a circuit court reporter for Ohio, Butler, Edmonson and Hancock counties for 20 years.  She owned the Leader Newspaper and was a foster parent for several years.

She loved to travel the United States especially with her sister Pheobe (& John) Parker.  She liked to read and with her court reporting job she had gained a huge vocabulary.  Even though she lost most of her eyesight she remained alert with a sharp wit her entire life.

Viewing will start at 4PM Friday April 26th and services will be Saturday April 27th at 11AM at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Anthony “Tony” Evitts officiating.  Burial will be at the Goshen Church Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to go to the Goshen Church immediately after for lunch. Family request donations be made to the “Goshen Cemetery Fund” C/O Shirley Ferguson, P.O. Box 431, Hartford, KY 42347
