Welcome to the memorial page for

Richard Lee "Richie" Plummer

July 5, 1950 ~ November 21, 2016 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Richard Lee (Richie) Plummer, age 66, died peacefully with his family at his side on November 21, 2016 at his home.  Richie was preceded in death by his mother and father, Harvey and Opha Mae Plummer, brother David Plummer, brother-in-law Eddie Evans, and sister-in-law Carol Evans.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha Plummer, and his two sons, Chris Plummer and Brent Plummer of Beaver Dam.  He is also survived by his brother, Donnie Plummer, and his wife Claudia of McHenry, KY, brother-in-law Charles Evans of Deputy, IN,  sister-in-law Melonee Plummer of Pascagoula, MS, sister-in-law Linda Evans, and several nieces and nephews. After working for 29 years at a local wood manufacturing plant, he had to retire because of health reasons.

Richie was very involved in the music ministry all of his life beginning in grade school learning to play music. He played the cornet in the band through high school and following God’s plan, began leading music in worship service.  He started as a choir director at Beaver Dam Methodist Church at age 17, was song director at Central Grove Baptist Church for a number of years and also at Concord Baptist Church for 2 years.  He served 2 tenures at McHenry Baptist Church for over 30 years.  He enjoyed presenting cantatas at Easter and Christmas for the public.  Richie was an ordained deacon having served at Central Grove, Concord, and McHenry Baptist Church.    While at McHenry Baptist, he was instrumental in introducing Contemporary Music which became very popular in the worship service but at the same time holding a blended style of worship.  His goal in life and through music was to have people worship God and not lift themselves up.  His favorite statement was, “It’s not about us, it’s all about Him”.

Recently, Richie was bestowed the title of “Kentucky Colonel”, of which he was very proud.

Richie and Martha loved to create special times and memories at Christmas.  One of the things they did was to have Santa help out by hiding one of the presents for the boys to find with special clues.  They also liked to decorate the house with lights just to bring some happiness to those around.
