UTICA-Herman Joseph Gahn, Sr., 79 of Utica died Thursday October 19, 2017 at The Heartford House in Owensboro. Herman was born in Chicago, IL to the late Alfons and Caroline Hundt Gahn, Sr.. He served in the U.S. Navy, worked for the Chicago Police Department and Brinks Armoured Car Company and he was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in BeaverDam. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and a U of K fan. He was preceded in death by a son-Phillip Gahn; 3 brothers-Alfons Gahn, Jr., Karl Gahn and Delno Gahn; 2 sisters-Irma Tipltz and Sister Caroline Gahn.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Nancy Ashby Gahn; a son-Herman Gahn, Jr.(Friend-Nancy Kowalski) of Montgomery, IL; a brother-Werner (Waltraud) Gahn of Inglolstadt, Germany; sister-in-law-Mona Gahn of Centertown; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Burial will be at Walton Creek Cemetery near Centertown. Friends may visit with the family from 9-11AM Tuesday at the church. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Ohio County Animal Shelter or Walton Creek Cemetery.
